DEFINITION OF HEALTH ::
"sama dosha sama agnischa sama dhatu mala kriyaaha|
Prasanna atma indriya manaha swastha iti abhidheeyate ||"( Sushruta Samhita )
The above mentioned phrase means:
One is in perfect health when the Three doshas (vata, pitta and Kapha) Digestive fire (digestion,assimilation and metabolism) all the body tissues & components (Dhatus) (the entire physical body) all the excretory functions (the physiological functions of urination and defecation) are in perfect order with a pleasantly disposed and contented mind, senses and spirit.

Three Doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha are three functionalities that regulate all physiological,psychological and spiritual facets of a person. These have five intricately intertwined subdivisions, and
Ayurveda clearly deatils their functioning, the ideal ways of maintaining their balance and regaining it in case they lose balance.
Digestive fire: Referred to as Agni, this term is a representation of metabolism, and comprise digestion,absorption and assimilation. It is vital for turning assimilated food into Dhatus, like plasma, blood,muscle, bone and fat. The food is also broken down to form seminal fluid in men, Artava in women and Ojas, the vital force, in both. Medically speaking, it can be considered the tissue responsible for secreting Serotonin and Dopamine.
Excretory functions: In Ayurveda, a lot of emphasis is laid upon excretory functions, as these are deemed vital for maintaining perfect health and keeping diseases at bay. It is said that proper excretory functions ensure good health & spirit and increases life span.
